Product details

Key Features
3:1 Planetary Gear
Retracts up to three times faster than a direct crank, which matters when you are winding in 300 feet of tape.
300 ft of Fiberglass
PVC-coated fiberglass tape reduces stretch, so this open reel tape measure holds accuracy under tension across long runs.
One Zero Point
Carabiner and hook share the same zero, so it reads the same however you anchor the end.
Stake in the Handle
An integrated metal stake stores in the handle for one-person layouts in the dirt.
Two Scales
Standard SAE on one side, engineer's scale on the other, for construction and survey-style work.
Overview
The Klein Tools 300-Foot Open Reel Tape Measure with Single Hook and Carabiner (94300RT) is a long-distance measuring tape for site work. This is an open reel tape measure designed for measuring lots, foundations, parking areas, trench and conduit runs, fence lines and anything else beyond the reach of a case tape. Klein model 94300RT carries 300 ft (91.4 m) of 1/2" (1.27 cm) wide tape.
The tape is PVC-coated fiberglass, which significantly reduces stretch compared to uncoated tapes and keeps the reading accurate when you pull it tight across a long span. It is double-sided: standard SAE measurements on one side and an engineer's scale on the reverse, with high-contrast markings that read well in bright sun or shade.
Winding in 300 feet is where most open reels wear you out. Klein uses a 3:1 planetary gear system that runs smoothly and retracts up to three times faster than a direct-drive crank. The hand crank disengages, and rewind is manual.
The end hardware is built for working alone. A carabiner and a single hook share the same zero point, so there is no offset to remember whichever you clip or hook. An integrated stainless steel stake stores in the handle, so you always have an anchor to set the zero end in the ground and walk the tape out yourself.
The frame is ABS with a TPR overmold in orange and black, measuring about 10-1/8" wide x 14" tall x 2-3/16" deep (25.7 x 35.6 x 5.5 cm), and weighs 3.8 lb (1,710 g). The tape does not lock and the end is not magnetic.
Who should buy it: site electricians laying out underground runs, surveyors and estimators, landscapers, fence and concrete contractors, and anyone who regularly measures beyond 100 feet.

Pro Tip
Clip the carabiner to a fixed point when there is one, and use the stake only in soil. Because both share the same zero, you can switch between them mid-job without changing how you read the tape.
Tool Nut's Take
Long Tape, Short Rewind
The Klein Tools 300-Foot Open Reel Tape Measure with Single Hook and Carabiner (94300RT) measures 300 feet with less stretch and rewinds faster than a typical open reel.
Who it's for: Site electricians, estimators and outdoor trades who measure long distances, often alone.
Why it stands out: 3:1 planetary gear, shared-zero hook and carabiner, and a stake stored right in the handle.
Worth knowing: At 3.8 lb it is a site tool, not a pocket tool, and the tape does not lock.
