The Temple Tool Co. 9.5" Medium Universal Teeth Kataba Pull Saw is a versatile Japanese pull saw built to handle a wide range of woodworking tasks with a single cutting edge. Its universal tooth pattern combines crosscut and rip-cut teeth, allowing the saw to cut efficiently across the grain, with the grain and at diagonal angles. The longer 265 mm blade and moderately aggressive tooth pattern make it an effective hand saw for wood when dimensioning stock or cutting medium to large joinery.
"Kataba" translates to "single edge," a design favored for deep cuts because there is no opposing toothed edge to create interference within the kerf. While a double-edge saw offers multiple cutting options, the Kataba's single-edge configuration moves freely through deeper cuts, making it a strong choice for tenons and other larger joinery work. The 14.4 TPI universal teeth provide a balance of cutting speed and surface quality without requiring separate rip and crosscut saws.
The blade is manufactured from SK85 Japanese tool steel and features impulse-hardened teeth for long-lasting sharpness and wear resistance.
